Uses Identified by Dow
An Identified Use for a substance is a use that has been identified by either Dow itself or by its customers and is reported in the Chemical Safety Report and in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of the products corresponding to that substance.
For classified substances an Identified Use for a substance is a use that has been identified by either Dow itself or by its customers and for which Exposure Scenarios have been developed containing the use conditions (Operational Conditions and Risk Management Measures) that ensure safe use of the substance. This has been demonstrated in the Chemical Safety Assessment and is reported in the Chemical Safety Report. This means that the substance can be safely used, provided the Downstream Users comply with the prescribed use conditions that are needed to limit exposure to a safe level. In ‘Risk Assessment’ terms this means that for human health the exposure level is lower than the corresponding Derived No Effect Level (DNEL) and simultaneously that for the environment the concentrations in environmental compartments due to release of the substance are lower than the corresponding Predicted No Effect Concentration (PNEC).
The SDS’s of the products corresponding to these substances will list the Identified Uses in section 1.2 of the SDS and the Exposure Scenarios are provided as an attachment to the SDS (extended SDS). The uses documented in the SDS’s of the products containing the above substances shall be consistent with the identified uses of these substances.
